Boulder is the 11th most populous city in the state of Colorado, nestled at the foot of the Rocky Mountains just 30 miles from Denver. Boulder is a vibrant town that retains obvious remnants of its hippie flair, so much so that locals jokingly refer to the city as the "People's Republic of Boulder." It is a college town, with the campus of the University of Colorado embedded within the city. With the mountains beckoning at the edge of the city, the high altitude (5,430 ft above sea level), and the 300+ days of sunshine per year, Boulder is a physically fit town. Boulder regularly places high in many health, wellness, and happiness polls of US cities.
There is much to see and do in and around the city. Pearl Street, although only 30 years old, has a character and charm you might find in an old European village. You can find lots of interesting shops along the four-block pedestrian mall, or be entertained by the many street performers you'll encounter. Finding a place to get a pint is not a problem, as there are probably more brewpubs per capita than you're likely to find anywhere else.
Looking to get some exercise? Head over to the Flatiron Mountains, the iconic slab-faced foothills that overlook the city, for a hike.
